Demonstrations

These examples illustrate some of the ways web sites can be used interactively, beyond the simple presentation of data. The term "interactive" is frequently misused in web design, and is treated as if it is a synonym of "animated" or "mouseover". It isn't. Interactive websites are ones which respond to the user's needs for information.

Sports Centre Timetables
This is a simple example of how navigation through information can be made more interactive. In this mock-up, a small database of only about a dozen records is used to provide a number of inroads to attractive information pages about a district's sports centres.

Honest Harry
This example shows how data can be made more digestible and accessible to the web site visitor. In this mock-up, a car dealership has around 50 cars on the forecourt and rather than just list them on a web page, an interactive search lets the potential customer browse through the listed models.

Place Names
This example illustrates how simple web-based databases can handle a large volume of data and make access that data more digestible. In this demonstration there areover 27,000 place names
